Frequently asked questions

It is not recommended to have laser hair removal while pregnant or breastfeeding, however you can buy a treatment package, and save it for use at a later date.

Yes, all skin types are treatable at Thérapie Clinic. We only use medical grade lasers with the most advanced technologies allowing us to do this safely and effectively.

After buying your laser hair removal treatment, you can go ahead and book your first session. Some clients like to have a complimentary patch test or consultation prior to their first appointment, and we can also offer this. But most clients like to go ahead without a consultation if they have had laser hair removal before.

As with all treatments, pain depends on the person and how sensitive they are, as well as the area being treated. With this in mind, we help to desensitize the area by using Cynosure lasers, which have additional cooling devices during treatment. In all honesty, there’s no need to worry as the sensation of the treatment is mild and is well tolerated by most clients.

Thérapie Clinic only uses the most advanced leading Medical Grade Lasers, not IPL machines.

The number of treatments you will need is dependent on many factors – the area being treated, systemic factors such as medications, medical conditions, stress and hormonal influences such as PCOS for example. Most clients will need 6 -10 treatments to achieve optimum results.

We recommend you leave a minimum of 4-8 weeks between your treatment times initially; this depends on the area you are treating and your hair cycle. As the number of growing hairs begins to reduce, we may space your treatments out further to ensure we always catch the hair in the correct stage of growth.

While laser hair removal can reduce, delay or inhibit the hairs from growing, it’s not always a 100% permanent solution to unwanted hair – unless the follicle is totally destroyed. You’ll usually undergo between 6 and 10 sessions to notice a significant reduction, and you’ll need some maintenance treatments also.

After your treatment you should expect some temporary side effects, all of which are perfectly normal. Here’s a quick guide to help you to understand what you should expect, and what you can do to help your treated area after laser hair removal;

  • It’s likely that there will be some swelling in the hair follicle areas, which can last up to 7 days
  • Expect heat and itchiness in the treatment area, up to 7 days after your treatment
  • The treated area of skin may appear darker initially, this is a normal expected response.
  • If you can, try to avoid touching or scratching the treated area
  • Keep the area cool and don’t wear tight clothing – eg. no tights or jeans
  • Soothe the area with Thérapie Post laser aid as much as possible in the days after your treatment
  • Avoid using all make up on the area for 24 hours after your treatment. If you absolutely have to use makeup at this time, ensure it is mineral based.
  • Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of one week after the treatment, remembering to use a broad spectrum SPF at all times
  • Do not apply deodorant for 24 hours if treated under the arms.
  • Avoid very hot baths or showers for 24 hours after your treatment, and avoid swimming for 48 hours.
  • Don’t visit saunas or steam rooms for 48hrs after your treatment
  • Avoid having treatments such as chemical peels, injectables, or derma pen treatments in the same area for up to 4 weeks.

If you’re committed to getting great results, then it’s important that you prepare your treatment area before laser hair removal - and look after your skin while you are being treated.  Here are some super useful tips;

  • Don’t bleach or use hair removal cream for at least 4-6 weeks before your first treatment, and never use it for the duration of your laser treatments.
  • Don’t wax, pluck or thread the area for at least 1 month before your treatment, remembering to always stop using these methods for the duration of your treatments.
  • While you are having treatments, cutting or shaving the hair is the only other method of hair removal
  • You need to shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your laser treatment, this needs to be done before you come to the Clinic
  • Use AHA/BHA facial or body scrub 1 week before and after your laser treatments
  • Don’t exfoliate the treated area two days before or after your treatment
    You will need to use a broad spectrum SPF on all areas being treated when exposed to daylight.
  • Keep your skin oil and lotion free before treatments
    Always tell your laser specialist about any changes in medication or to your medical history before your next treatment begins
  • Self tanning or false tanning can impair the effectiveness of your treatment - please don’t self tan for up to a week before your treatment
  • Please let your laser specialist know of any tattoos you may have or get during the duration of your treatment
  • Don’t take any antihistamines or anti-inflammatories 24 hours before your treatment
